This document is a working draft published so the URL is stable while ScratchBuddy is in private beta. It has not been reviewed by counsel, has no effective date, and does not yet operate as a binding privacy policy.
It describes the private beta accurately and in good faith, and we will follow it during the beta. The reviewed and operative version will replace this page at the same address before the iOS app is released, at which point the effective date will appear here.

ScratchBuddy is built to need almost nothing from you. There are no accounts, no names, and no logins. This policy describes what little we do collect, why, and how to make us delete it.

The device identifier is generated by the app and is not your device's advertising ID, serial number, or any other identifier assigned by Apple, Google, or your carrier. It is not linked to your name, your email, or any account, because there are no accounts.
When you scan, the photo is transmitted to our vision provider, read to identify ticket names, and then dropped. We do not store your scan photos. We keep only the resulting list of identified games and whether the scan worked. Our provider processes the image to return that result and does not use it to train models.
This list is deliberate. ScratchBuddy does not collect:
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, lottery operators, retailers, or anyone else for their own purposes. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not serve advertising in the app. The only parties who touch your data are the infrastructure providers named above, acting on our instructions.
Usage events are retained while they remain useful for understanding the product, and are deleted or aggregated beyond individual-event level within two years. Waitlist emails are kept until the app launches and you have been notified, or until you ask us to remove yours, whichever comes first. Scan photos are not retained at all.
Write to privacy@scratchbuddy.ai and we will delete what we hold. Because we do not know who you are, this works best if you tell us the email address you gave the waitlist, or send the anonymous device identifier the app can show you. We will confirm when it is done.
ScratchBuddy is a small, pre-revenue company that falls below the thresholds at which the U.S. state privacy statutes impose formal obligations on us. We have written this policy to be accurate and to honour deletion requests regardless of whether a statute currently compels it. If a state law becomes applicable to us, we will update this page and comply.
ScratchBuddy is for people 18 and over. The app presents an age gate before any content. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app and given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Data is held on Cloudflare infrastructure in the United States and reached over encrypted connections. Access is limited to the sole member of the company. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not promise that ours is — but we collect so little that there is very little to lose.
We will revise this page and note the change if we add features that alter what we collect. The two we can already foresee are location-aware features such as store maps, and push alerts, either of which would require new permissions and new disclosure here. We will not apply a materially different practice retroactively to data already collected.
